Bachelor Party - cont'd

Much later in the evening (well after midnight, which lets me get away with using this event for two days worth of 365 photos), we returned to the Cha Cha Lounge for a whole lotta foosball. As it turns out, neither Charles nor his brothers are all that good at foosball, so the three of us who were not related to Charles were able to gang up on him and the game soon became "when we score, Charles drinks".
Charles drank. A lot. He was soon using the foosball table to steady himself. Goodtimes. I wish I had a better photo, but the lighting at the Cha Cha was nothing but red Christmas lights.

Bachelor Party.

For my good friend Charles' bachelor party, we initially gathered at the Cha Cha Lounge on Glendale Blvd. in Silverlake, but when we arrived, they had not yet opened. So we went across the street to the Red Lion Tavern instead.

Whazzat?

My friend Paolina bought a new Honda Fit. Before she took the car home, I figured we should at least look under the hood to make sure there weren't any obvious things out of place.
Here she is, throughly inspecting the battery terminals.

This is Finland Station, playing at The Airliner in East LA. My friend Alex is the front man, and puts on a pretty good show. Apologies for the craptastic photo - my battery died after this shot.

Lauren isn't too sure about me just yet. I suppose I can't blame her - I wouldn't trust me either.

Bicko? Not quite...

My friend Jenna and I are on a quest to find Cafe Bicko-quality deep-dish Chicago style pizza in Los Angeles. This place wasn't bad (I forget the name), but it was no Bicko.

Here you can see my good friends Koz and Keith in the background, getting their asses beat playing a drinking game called Beirut. But everyone had fun - isn't that what really matters?

Our friends Liz and Jon (or Jiz and Lon if you ask Melba) threw a dinner party and invited us and our friends Grimm and Tina (or Trimm and Gina, if you ask Melba).

Cinco de Mayo

Cinco de Mayo was the day chosen to observe both Melba and my friend Keith's birthdays. Melba and I had a great dinner at Murray's and a drink at the Chambers Hotel, then joined the group celebrating Keith's birthday at Park Tavern.
For some unknown reason, I have posted this picture which features neither Melba nor Keith.

Roaming Gnomes - rainy game

Roaming Gnomes kickball... a very rainy game got called short, but not before we came back to tie it up, 6-6. The Gnomes are now 1-1-1.

Ice cream with friends

Melba and I went out for pizza at Cafe Bicko tonight with friends Liz and Jon, and for some f'd up reason all that pizza just wasn't enough and we had to go out for ice cream afterward. We stopped at the Edina Creamery for a little tiny nibble.

BBQ!

Tonight I grilled for the first time this year. Cooked up some chicken and pork chops, which turned out very well. Cari joined Melba and I for dinner and beverages. A good time was had by all.

The last Happy Hour

The Iceholes celebrated the last Happy Hour this evening, but talk has already shifted from broomball to the upcoming spring kickball league. Should be fun.

Melba and I ventured out today and joined a group of friends for a Super Bowl party. You can tell it was a wee bit chilly outside - some chose to keep their warm layers on inside during the game.

Happy Hour

February 1st was not only my dad's birthday, but also the birthday of my friends Chung and Amy. This was taken at The Independent, where a group of us gathered for a happy hour celebration for Chung and Amy (my dad=humbug). I'm pleased to report that none of us are old enough or mature enough to have outgrown the custom of buying shots for the birthday kid.

0-3-1!

This horrible, grainy, blurry photo represents a triumph - The Iceholes FIRST non-loss! (Hey, I take it when I can get it.) We played an awesome game and were evenly matched with the other team tonight. We're now 0-3-1. Woo!
It was 8 degrees out there tonight, but I had many-multiple layers on and was even sweating at one point. Broomball is a ton of fun.

Melba and I enjoyed an excellent fondue dinner with friends Saturday night. I'm not sure why, but it entailed reading an instruction manual for a fondue pot.

Bicko/Millers

Tonight I had the opportunity to have pizza at Cafe Bicko with my very good friend Mellar and his wife, Mrs. Mellar. The pizza was, as always, stellar. The company was even better. I wish I could hang with the Mellars more often.

Apples to Apples
Melba and I like to play a game called Apples to Apples. We hung out with our new cool friends
Newt and her husband tonight and Melba schooled us all at the game. I shot a bunch of pictures of the Newt family animal menagerie, but my hands weren't very steady tonight and/or the pets weren't standing very still - everything I shot was blurry (I hate using the flash). So, much to Melba's probable dismay (she tends not to like photos of herself), I'm posting the shot I got of her in mid-game dominance:

Cow-orkers

Today was Taco Tuesday at Taco John's, we usually pile into a conference room to eat and discuss geek topics.
Side note, I love the ISO 1600 setting on the Canon SD800. The noise reminds me of B&W film grain.

Broomball.

Last night was the Iceholes' third game of the season, and it was also our third loss. We put in a good effort though, and kept the game close. Still managed to have a lot of fun.

Roadtrip + Snow = Hmm. (edited)
This is what it looks like out the window at work right now:

10 degrees F and snowing at the moment. Melba and I have a 250 mile drive ahead of us this evening (to Lutsen, MN) which might prove to be interesting if the snow keeps up.
I'm posting this pic now, but I may replace it later if I come across anything exciting.
--
EDIT:
I did come across something more exciting. We made it to the cabin well before midnight, and I shot this a few minutes before midnight:

This was only the start of the weekend's debauchery. Mmm... debauchery.

Iceholes!

Tonight was the first game of the Iceholes' 2007 broomball season. Despite the bitter cold (2 degrees F), and a pretty lopsided defeat, we had fun.

New camera!
I got a new camera tonight. Yes, I should be putting that money toward lights for the studio, but I'm tired of lugging my Nikon around everywhere and I wanted something small for Belize. Besides, Melba now inherits the SD300.

Ain't she purty? I could almost be a product photographer.
Of course I had to bring it to happy hour tonight to get my picture for today. Here's a shot of my good friend Cari. You can sorta see her boyfriend Chung in the beer mug's glass.

And here's a better shot of Chung. The man has fine taste in periodicals.

Less than 30 days from now, Melba and I will be enjoying the beaches of Belize with Chung and Cari. Can't WAIT.
