Just a little debate.
One of my neighbors in the building put a big sign in their window that says "Vote YES on Prop. 8 for less government!" For those of you who don't live in California, Prop. 8 is a proposal to ban gay marriage state-wide. This sign pisses me off, but not for the obvious reason. I would quietly disagree, but respect their opinion if all it said was "Vote yes on Prop. 8". But to try and disguise Prop. 8 as a weapon against "big government" rings of evil deception to me. So I taped a small paper sign to the outside of their window that says:
Someday, your grandchildren will look back on your attempts to ban gay marriage with the same disdain we now hold for our grandparent's misguided attempts to ban interracial marriage.
I hold little hope to change their minds, but at least they'll know there was one person outside their walls who wasn't fooled.

I fully agree. How is it people can claim to want smaller government, but then insist that government should have the right to tell me what I can do with my body or who I can marry? It makes no sense.
Seriously, that was an awesome response.
Wow, Steve. Well-done.
I read a blog post yesterday in favor of Prop 8. The woman who wrote it said, "it's not anti-gay, it's about freedom of religion." Which is quite the stretch, though not really surprising since bigotry and being a half-wit often go hand-in-hand.
stef: I'm with ya. While being a guy automatically puts me back a notch in the abortion argument, it seems to me the same people arguing against the right to choose are often the same ones who claim to want big government out of their lives. Confounding.
jenna/mair: Aww, thanks!
flurry: Funny how those two are often in bed with each other. I saw this morning that my little additional sign was already gone. Oh well. Made me feel better.
Amen, Steve! Nicely done.
If you ever want to phone bank for the No On Prop 8 campaign, lemme know - I'm doing it next Tuesday, but there's one just about every night until the election.
ps - and yes, awesome response! good for you.
lisa: thanks!
ALP: I would love to, but I don't think I could handle it. The first person I talked to who said crazy evil things would send me over the edge.
No one says bad things...it's just undecided voters, who at worst get off the phone really fast.
It's actually kind of fun talking to people on the phone. And I hate people, so that's saying something.
