Creative inspiration
For the last week or so, I've had this itch to do something creative. I can't seem to scratch the itch by writing, but I did hop on my bike and pedal around Santa Monica with my camera this evening.
It hasn't quite satisfied the itch, though - I feel like a lot of what I've been shooting lately is stuff I've shot before. Nothing new. I need to find something new to try, an idea that takes me in a new direction.
I've been tempted to take a class on welding - I could see myself as one of those eccentric sculptors who welds giant piles of scrap metal into something hideous. I could use that as an excuse to surround myself with vast piles of junk. Wouldn't THAT be fun?

Well, the world could use more hideous piles of junk, so why not?
That photo of the swing kind of freaks me out. I think that means it's a good photo.
hideous piles of junk, as opposed to the electronic detritus that seems to generally pepper your living space?
The tanks. The gas. The flame. A cutting torch. A welding torch. Destruction & creation.
How can you say no?
You don't have to just create art. You can create something useful, like your own gocart, a shelf, picture frames, roll bar for the car, model rockets. The list is endless.
Friend of mine got into molding metal. Melts it down, puts it in a mold and voila!
flurry: thanks, I think...
alp: you know me well. I am one with my detritus.
mig: destruction and creation. amen, brother.
Ok, seriously, if you take up welding, would you freaking make me something? I stole this piece of rebar, and I'd like to have it cut in half, and weld a metal bison tube to the end of it.. Um yeah, I know I'm not normal, but seriously I really really want it.
