In limbo.

In about 7 days, I finally move into my new home. I'm very much looking forward to getting there, because I feel like I've been living out of a suitcase since June 3rd. I like the adventure of temporarily living this semi-nomadic life, but I think the lack of a home has taken away much of my creative energy.

I'm a bit of a homebody and I need a lot of alone time, so I suspect the lack of both has put me in this slightly uncomfortable groove. I haven't been doing any writing and very little photography, which frustrates me since I was looking forward to spending a lot of time doing both once I arrived back in LA.
In less-whiny news... have you heard the new Chemical Brothers album, "We Are the Night"? Me likey. I especially likey tracks 6 and 8, Das Spiegel and Burst Generator. Both tracks have been on maximum top-down-in-the-car, stereo-cranked iPod rotation. If you are interested in hearing it, send me an email. I might know where you can get it.

People are funny.

Unnamed cow-orker:

1. Has to have the latest and greatest in electronic gadgetry
2. Has no idea how said gadgetry works
3. Has zero patience when his new cutting edge gadgetry doesn't work immediately
4. Craps on IT department's Wheaties when we can't get his gadgetry to work immediately

That's a good recipe. Woot!

Uhh...

This showed up on my voicemail last night. After I picked my jaw up off the floor, I started counting the times I've heard my dad sing. I never made it to one, and now I think I know why.

But the thought was nice. Whee!

Update...

A few things to report since my last post (in numbered list form, just like I like it):

1. I officially have a home! I move in on 8/1.
2. I have a temporary home! I'm renting a room from my cool cow-orker Paolina. Rent is painting her hallway. Mmm... manual labor.
3. Work is going well. I've already settled back into a nice groove.
4. Nothing else new, but life is good.

Many thanks to my uber cool friends Kate and Mark for putting me up in their spare bedroom these last few weeks. They're gracious hosts, and the dining at Casa Beeson is stellar. If not for their help, it would have been damn tough for me to get back home. And continued thanks to them for letting me take up a corner of their garage with my crap.

Transformers = Fun

Woo.
While not a huge fan of the Transformers as a kid (I was more into Hot Wheels and Lego), I figured the new Transformers movie looked like fun, based on the previews I'd seen. Sure, there's the looming specter of Michael Bay cheese factor, but there was also the Spielberg factor that would hopefully balance out the Bay-ness.

My good friend Kate managed to score some tickets to see the 8:05 screening last night at The Bridge. I was a little surprised to see that there weren't any crowds waiting in long lines to get in, but was a bit disappointed to see the theater almost full when we got in. We ended up in the 3rd row, sorta off to the right.

The movie was a whole lot of fun. I won't give anything away, but I will say that the usual Michael Bay suckitude didn't rear its ugly head much at all. Sure, the "love interest" scenes between the two main human characters were cheesy, but the scenes were short and sandwiched between long, intense scenes of frenetically paced action and ridiculously cool visual effects, so the "acting" portions served as a nice opportunity to take a breather. My only other real beef with the film was the heavy-handed product placement, but I forgot about that once shit started gettin' blowed up, yo!

And the shit gettin' blowed up, yo! effects are incredible. Not one pixel of bad CGI, anywhere. The soundtrack was loud as all hell, but it fit the movie and added to the fun factor. In one scene, a C-130 gunship fires its 105mm cannon at a Transformer, and I'm thinkin' theater had the volume up a little extra loud, because the sound was punishing. After we left the theater, my friend Mark mentioned that Michael Bay was actually in the audience with us. Might be why the sound was turned up to 11.

All in all, Transformers is a fun, fun movie. Definitely not cerebral, but if you go in expecting Shakespeare, you're a fool. Manage those expectations, and you just might like it.
